New Minneapolis-Saint Paul Urban LTER site

Tuesday, March 16, 2021

Welcome to the new Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP) Urban Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) site, the newest member of the network of 28 LTER sites across the U.S.

Themes of climate change and racial inequality figure prominently in the project, which will explore how urban residents and urban nature interact with one another and respond to ongoing rapid environmental and social change. The ultimate goal is to figure out ways that environmental outcomes can be improved for all people living in the city.

The new site will support 30 senior personnel and includes collaborations among the University of Minnesota, the University of St. Thomas, the U.S. Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy, and Water Bar and the Bell Museum to conduct research across the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.
