Research on natural processes withinForest Service wilderness areas is dined anddiscussed. Current wilderness research, otherthan recreation-oriented, is looked at in thecontext of ecosystem research on naturalprocesses. Research needs are presented. Theapparent lack of ecosystem research on naturalprocesses is a result of regulations, attitude, logistics, and funding. Recommendations fordealing with these problems are made.
