Streamtlow in the Pacific Northwest is most strongly influenced by the precipitation pattern, somewhat less byevapotranspiration losses. Evaporation and transpiration are strongly influenced by logging. Logging and burningold-growth Douglas-fir forests on an experimental watershed increased annual yields of streamwater by 18 inchesor more. Most of the increase occurred in fall and winter months. We can't positively attribute any great increasein major "wet mantle— flood flows to logging in west slope forests. Logging which removes transpiring vegetationincreases lowest summer streamtlow. Such increases may be short lived as vegetation rapidly invades the cutoverareas.
