Amounts of soil Zoss froman unprotected newly constructedbacks lope were two to -four timesgreater than Zoss from a compar-able slope 5 years after construc-tion. Of six roadside treatments,studied, the two showing consis-tently Zarge amounts of soil Zossduring the first critical rainyperiod were the only ones withouta straw mulch covering.
