Abstract:

A chimera of red and yellow periderm color is described from a population intermediatebetween Abies concolor and A. grandis. Its formation probably followed changes in propertiesof apical initials, rather than in cells produced later in development. Apparently only a singlegenetic change can control this red—yellow periderm color difference.
