Conifer foliage mass related to sapwood area

Investigation of 52 trees suggests thatfoliage mass (kg dry weight) of individual Doug-las-fir, noble fir, and ponderosa pine trees canbe estimated from regressions on sapwood cross-sectional area (cm') at dbh (1.3 m). Equationsare respectively y 0.072 x —1.34, y = 0.51x —4.63, and y = 0.043 x +7.13. Correlationcoefficients (r) were 0.98 or greater.
