Abstract:

Since the inception of the LTER Program in 1980, climate has been studied atindividual LTER sites and an LTER Climate Committee has been responsible for inter-siteactivities. At individual sites, climate studies support ecological research, emphasize infra-siteheterogeneity, and often relate to other national monitoring and research programs. In inter-sitework, the Climate Committee has produced protocols for meteorological observations, describedand compared climates of the first 11 sites, and raised important issues regarding climatevariability and ecosystem response.
