Forest chemicals are used to protect or enhance a wide array of forestresources. Their use may have adverse effects on anadromous fish or theirhabitats. Forest managers, regulatory officials, and the interested public believestrongly that if forest chemicals are used, they must yield significant benefitswithout imposing unreasonably adverse environmental effects. We review andsummarize what is known about the interaction between forest chemicals andsalmonid fishes (particularly anadromous populations) and their habitats. Ourobjective is to provide the reader with a scientific basis for making informed, technically sound decisions about the use of these important management toolswith respect to salmonids and their habitats.
