Erosion and sedimentation are common problemsin Peru's coastal, highland, high jungle, and low jungleregions. The highlands and high jungle are the regionswith the most serious problems due to their physiographicclimatic, and socio-economic characteristics. Mainproblems in these regions are rill, gully, and masserosion. Promising solutions are based on localtraditional technology: terracing and agroforestry.Teamwork of Peruvian and external institutions keepsresearch and extension projects going. Because of themagnitude of the problem, new projects are needed. Somespecific topics needing more attention are management ofsteep lands, landslide research, and erosion andsedimentation processes in jungle watersheds.
