Abstract:

Seven successive generations of Clistoronia magnifica (BANKS) were reared in labo-ratory cultures in 46 months at 15.6°C. Rearing techniques are described and thebiology of the species, as observed in the laboratory, is discussed and comparedwith field data.
No obvious deterioration of vigour was noted; pupal and adult weights haveremained constant or increased slightly up to the fifth generation. Laboratory-reared specimens were heavier than field material, but the laboratory colony pro-duced fewer eggs per female.
