Abstract:

Progress in development of a system of scientific reserves (ResearchNatural Areas and Experimental Ecological Reserves) in the PacificNorthwest is reported. Such reserves are essential as field laboratories forecological scientists and offer numerous advantages for research projectsover unprotected sites. If such reserves are to be retained and the systemexpanded, scientists must make fuller use of them in the future.
