Abstract:

This bibliography of insect mycophagy results from a literaturesearch on the ecology of hypogeous fungi. It is hoped thatthis admittedly incomplete list will provide a nucleus ofreferences for those unfamiliar with the topic.
Using the "bracket" fungi (Polyporaceae) as an example, mostof the literature can be reduced to lists of insects extractedor reared from fungal sporocarps. Such lists probably concealcomplete food chains since there has been little or no experimentalverification of food habits. Consequently values for food con-sumption rates, chemical composition, species numbers, consumermodels, and so on have not been reported. Other complicatingfactors are the need for updating insect and fungal taxonomy andneglect of groups that are difficult to observe, such ashypogeous fungi.
The bibliography includes some references to mycophagistpredators and also a few unverified citations, the latter in-dicated by an asterisk. For brevity an attempt was made tolimit papers contained in earlier reviews.
