Seminar: ecology, social science, and environmental ethics

Friday, October 19, 2018

Dr. Michael P. Nelson of Oregon State University will be presenting on his research that sits at the intersection of ecology, social science, and environmental ethics: "Toward the Inevitable Fusion: Research at the Crossroads of Ethics, Ecology, and Social Science."  The talk will be held on the OSU Campus, LINC 302, from 3:00 - 4:00 PM. The seminar is free and open to the public. Dr. Nelson is a professor at Oregon State University and severs as the Lead PI for the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest Long-term Ecological Research program.

Ecologists, Environmental Social Scientists, and Environmental Ethicist have many overlapping and parallel interests. Seldom, however, do they collaborate or find the intersection of commonality that might allow for more impactfully addressing our environmental challenges. This presentation will focus on examples of research that sits at precisely that intersection. How might we fuse the empirical findings of the environmental and social sciences with wisdom of environmental ethics to more completely understand and move toward solving our most pressing environmental challenges?

The talk is part of the Ecology, Evolution and Conservation of Biodiversity Seminar Series.
