                    volcanic ash.

O2  2 - 0 in.        Humus layer; abundant  fine, medium and 
                    coarse roots; abrupt and smooth boundary.

A  0 - 2 in.        Light gray (10YR6/1) when dry, dark gray 
                    (10YR4/1) when moist coarse sand; single 
                    grain structure; loose when moist, nonsticky 
                    and nonplastic when wet; common fine and 
                    medium roots; clear and smooth boundary.

E  2 - 8 in.        Light gray (10YR7/2) when dry, with matrix of 
                    strong brown (7.5YR4/6) and mottles of pale 
                    brown (10YR6/3) when moist coarse sand;
