A1  0 - 6 in.       Very dark grayish brown (10YR3/2) when moist 
                    loamy sand; single grain structure; soft when 
                    dry, loose when moist, nonsticky and 
                    nonplastic when wet; abundant fine roots, 
                    very abundant mycelia; clear and smooth 
                    boundary.

C1  6 - 21 in.      Strong brown (7.5YR4/6) when moist gravelly 
                    coarse sand; single grain structure; soft 
                    when dry, loose when moist, nonsticky and 
                    nonplastic when wet; 35% very fine pumice
