A1  0 - 12 in.      Very dark brown (10YR2/2) when moist light 
                    silt loam; strong, fine granular structure; 
                    very friable when moist, nonsticky and 
                    nonplastic and slightly smeary when wet; 5% 
                    gravel; abundant fine and medium, few coarse 
                    roots.
