A1  0 - 4 in.       Very dark grayish brown (10YR3/2) when moist 
                    shotty loam; strong, fine granular structure; 
                    slightly hard when dry, friable when moist, 
                    nonsticky and nonplastic when wet; 25% shot; 
                    abundant fine, medium, and coarse  roots; 
                    clear and wavy boundary.
