Daily time of max, time of min

Fine Resolution Variables:
9 May 1972 to 13 Sep 1994:
Mean hourly air temperature
13 Sep 1994 to Present:
15 minute mean air temperature

Sensor height: 9 May 1972 to 23 Jun 2004: 150 cm cotton shelter (probe 05)
13 Sep 1994 to 25 Jun 2004: 150,250,350,450 cm on tower (probes 04, 03, 02, 01, respectively)
26 Jun 2004 to Present: probes at 150 or 450 cm on tower with different shields
Aspirated shield and sensor replaces cotton shelter sensor

Notes: Before 6 Jul 1988, min and max temperatures were hourly averages,
and the hour with the highest (or lowest ) average temperature was time of max (or min).
After 6 Jul 1988, min and max temperatures are instantaneous, and the time of min and max are
accurate.
From 06 Jul 1988 to 30 May 2000, the original probe at 150 cm height located in a Cotton Region
Shelter (probe 5) was used in dew point and vapor pressure deficit calculations.
In Sept 1994, an array of 4 new probes were added to the station tower at 150,250,350,450 cm
heights, in addition to the Cotton Shelter probe.
Beginning on 06 Jul 1998, the 150cm probe on the tower is also used to calculate dew point and
water vapor pressure deficit. On 30 May 2000, use of the 150 cm Cotton Shelter probe to calculate
dew point and water vapor pressure deficit was discontinued and replaced with the use of the 450 cm
probe on the tower.
In June 2000, probes were repositioned to 150 or 450 cm on the tower and a side by side experiment
of various sheilds was installed.
In June 2004, the experiment was deemed finished and the probes were permanently repositioned on
the tower at 150 or 450 cm with the different shields.
Daytime and nighttime calculations were discontinued on 13 Sep 1994.
CR21X samples every 10 seconds beginning 6 Jul 1988.

Notes: Before 06 Jul 1988, min and max temperatures were hourly averages,
and the hour with the highest (or lowest ) average temperature was time of max (or min).
After 06 Jul 1988, min and max temperatures are instantaneous, and the
time of min and max are accurate.
Before 06 Jul 1988 a lithium-chloride hygrometer is used. Problems
are noted before 1979. After 06 Jul 1988, dew point is calculated from
temperature and relative himidity sensors located in the 150 cm cotton shelter every 10 seconds (in millibars). Since 04 Jun 1998, an additional probe at 150 cm
on the tower was used to calculate dew point. On 30 May 2000, use of the 150 cm cotton shelter
probe to calculate dew point was discontinued and replaced with use of the 450 cm probe on the
tower.

PRECIPITATION (PRIMET)

Measurement period:: 19790101 - Present

Comments:

Daily Variables:
06 Mar 1979 to Present : Daily precipitation (tipping bucket)
24 Jan 2002 to Present: Daily precipitation (stand-alone)

Fine Resolution Variables:
06 Mar 1979 to 13 Sep 1994 : Hourly precipitation
13 Sep 1994 to Present: 15 minute precipitation
24 Jan 2002 to Present: 15 minute precipitation (stand-alone)

Status: Tipping bucket gage at gage is at height 100 cm. Stand-alone
gage also operational. Data logger samples every 15 seconds.

Notes: Gage actually established 06 Mar 1979. Early 1979 values
and missing values are filled in with WS#2 Climatic Station
and NADP Universal rain gages. Much of the first year is
missing, and the good record begins 01 Jan 1980.
The tipping bucket record is somewhat artificial at 5 minute
resolution, especially in light rain situations where the gage
does not tip in every 5 minute segment. 15 minute resolution
is probably more realistic. The stand-alone style raingage was
installed in January 2002 along with the tipping bucket.

SOLAR RADIATION (PRIMET)

Measurement period:: 19720510 - Present

Comments:

Daily Variables:
10 May 1972 to Present:
Total and max daily incoming solar radiation
Time of max

Fine Resolution Variables:
10 May 1972 to 13 Sep 1994:
Total incoming solar radiation in megaJoules per meter squared per hour
13 Sep 1994 to Present:
Total incoming solar radiation in megaJoules per meter squared per 15 minutes

Sensor height: 10 May 1972 to 01 Jan 1980 500 cm
01 Jan 1980 to Present 100 cm

Notes: Max solar radiation is maximum rate of incoming solar radiation as
watts per meter squared. All MAXSOLAR values were originally collected as
Langleys from 10 May 1972 to 8 May 2007.

TOTSOLAR values, originally collected as total Langleys over the given time interval
from 10 May 1972 to 8 May 2007, were converted to megaJoules per meter squared.
Conversions occurred in Nov 2009.

Before 07 Jul 1988, max solar radiation rate (now watts per meter squared)
was originally collected as total langleys per minute, but was based on the hour with
maximum total langleys divided by 60. The time of maximum is the hour with the
highest total incoming solar radiation.

After 07 Jul 1988, max solar radiation rate (now watts per meter squared)
was originally based on total langleys per minute, the maximum is based on
one minute, and the time of max is accurate to the minute.

Much of the incoming solar radiation data from the 1970's is estimated.
