PRECIPITATION (CENMET)

Measurement period:: 19950823 - Present

Comments:

Daily Variables:
23 Aug 1995 to Present : Daily precipitation (shelter gage)
03 Nov 2000 to Present: Daily precipitation (stand-alone gage)

Fine Resolution:

03 Nov 2000 to Present: 15 minute precipitation (stand-alone gage)

Status: Two raingages are now in operation.
The shelter gage is located on top of our station shelter
and heated through ducts from the shelter's propane heating
system. This gage has also improved catch over the more
traditionally heated raingages. However, it is protected only with
an alter wind shield. The stand-alone gage initiated 3 Nov 2000 has a
heated orifice and protective Valdais shield (fencing around gage).
A standard rain gage was operational 23 Aug 1995 to 26 Oct 2000.

Daily Variables:
30 Nov 1995 to Present :
Daily snow lysimeter runoff

Fine Resolution Variables:
30 Nov 1995 to Present :

Notes: Tipping bucket tips are summarized by 5 minute intervals
on a CR10 recorder. An event counter totals the number of tips
over the collection period as a check.

SNOW MOISTURE AND DEPTH (CENMET)

Measurement period:: 19941202 - Present

Comments:

Fine Resolution Variables:
15 Oct 1996 to Present:
5 minute snow moisture in water equivalence
23 Jan 1998 to Present:
5 minute snow depth

Periodic measurement variables:
02 Dec 1994 to Present
Periodic measurement of depth and calculated snow water (probe 02)
Periodic measurement of snow moisture and depth (probe 03)
- average snow course measurement along transect near the station

Notes: The high resolution 5 minute data file is reduced to eliminate points
when both snow moisture and depth are unchanging, and is displayed
with snow water equivalence value. These sensors were initially installed
on 27 Aug 1996, but sensor problems prevented proper functioning of
the snow pillow until Fall 1996 and snow depth sensor until 1998.
CR10 samples every 15 seconds.

SOLAR RADIATION (CENMET)

Measurement period:: 19950823 - Present

Comments:

Daily Variables:
23 Aug 1995 to Present:
Total and max daily incoming solar radiation
Time of max

High Resolution Variables:
23 Aug 1995 to Present:
Total incoming solar radiation in megaJoules per meter squared per 15 minutes

Sensor height: 627 cm

Notes: Max solar radiation is maximum rate of incoming solar radiation as
watts per meter squared. All MAXSOLAR values were originally collected as
Langleys per minute from 23 Aug 1995 to 26 July 2007 were converted to
watts per meter squared. The time of max is accurate to the minute.

TOTSOLAR values are megaJoules per meter squared over the given time interval.
Values were originally collected as total Langleys over the given time interval from
23 Aug 1995 to 26 July 2007 but were converted to megaJoules per meter squared.
Conversions occurred in Nov 2009.

SOLAR RADIATION (PAR) (CENMET)

Measurement period:: 19980123 - Present

Comments:

Daily Variables:
23 Jan 1998 to Present:
Mean and max daily photosynthetically active radiation (PAR)
Time of max

High Resolution Variables:
23 Jan 1998 to Present:
Mean PAR in 15 minute intervals

Sensor height: 627 cm

Notes: Max solar radiation is based on instantaneous micromoles per second per square meter, and
the time of max is accurate to the minute.
It is common for solar radiation sensors to read negative at night (-1 to -7). Negative nighttime
readings are changed to 0. The daily values average in these negative values, creating a minor
error in the daily values.

Sensor height: 23 Aug 1995 to Present: 1000 cm

Notes: A CR10 program malfunction kept wind direction from operating correctly until
March,1996. CR10 samples every 15 seconds.
