Visiting the Forest

One of the best ways to learn about the Andrews Experimental Forest is through first-hand experience -- The public is always welcome! Click here for map and directions

Be aware that much of the Andrews Forest is under snow and inaccessible during the winter months.Click here for current weather conditions at the Andrews Forest.

If you decide to visit, take a look at the large display board at the junction of Forest Roads 15 and 1506. The display has a map of the Andrews Forest and provides a short history of the site. Also available at the display are a brochure and directions to the Lookout Creek Old-Growth Trail, a 3.5 mile hike through a classic old-growth stand along Lookout Creek. The brochure is also available in a printable format online: Lookout Creek Old-Growth Trail brochure (PDF).

Check out the virtual tour of the old-growth trail to learn about the ecosystem and some of the essential characteristics of an old growth forest.
